… and the Word was God.

Let’s talk about Languages.

Isn’t it funny, how some civilizations start their respective cosmogonies with a word? for judo-christian cosmogony we have Genesis 1:1 ( and john 1:1 if your branch of Christianity adheres to the First Council of Nicaea ), for the Nahuatl cosmogony (there wasn’t only one, but let’s simplify it for the argument’s sake) we have Ometéotl, whom, after deciding so, existed with a word, giving the kick-start to existences and the 4 Tezcatlipocas along with the 5-suns-cosmogony. Any programmer surly has felt the impulse of allowing a cascade of creation flow out of its keyboard at least once in its life when working in a personal project and guess how such creation come to exist … yes, with words, which will be compiled into machine code an run in a server or a PC or any Turing Complete device, and, as such, we also have any good mathematician having a God-like-complex itch every now and then when uttering the words: “let X be … ” at the beginning of a proof, or while creating a new theory.

There is a pattern here, weather we chose to acknowledge it or not is entirely up to us … but for now, indulge me, darling, lets entertain, acquiesce the possibility that a universe, a creation exist because some entity in a meta existence, in the “astral plane” utters some words and all of reality cascades off as a result … and the shape of existence itself is given by such words … I know, how .. esoteric … profane … right? but, after some introductory courses of elemental geometry, isn’t that the whole point of axiomatic math?? there are some sentences, given by a sort of prophet, (which, hopefully makes sense logically) from which all truth is derived, and voilà, we have geometry; at least that’s how Euclid and his axioms are presented, then, of course, we now know that if you twist a bit his holy words (the 5th postulate to be precise) you get as a result a different ( although no less rich nor interesting ) Geometry, and just like that, we are transported into a new universe where Orientability and many other properties get suddenly spicy.

Aha! I can hear you already, heavy-breathing to bring model theory up … yes, that’s just a model from the theory, Geometry I mean, yes, there is incompleteness beyond first-order-logic, yes, you can’t create a congruent mathematical system by randomly uttering some phrases … yet … I can’t but wonder … how an Hypothetical machine ( a Turing machine? a Cellular automata? a clever mathematical system whose inner composition is utterly outside our cognitive epistemological grasp?) capable of creating and sustaining, congruence (coherence?) and truth would look like?

Ever since humanity left Eden, we have been trying to play God, by altering and shaping our environment to our needs, by exercising our own free will ( and some by daring even to decide their own destiny ) but maybe we have use the wrong tools all along, maybe, the true source of power from which we will cling to transcend our primate flesh is this “machine” that will utter the right words for our new profane universe.
